Flights to Thailand, the most popular destination for international holidaymakers, are often cancelled or delayed after a natural disaster or terrorist attack.
But the number of flights has increased in recent years as airlines have sought to avoid the disruption that comes with an attack on the nation’s airspace.
A flight from Bangkok to Mandalay, Thailand, which has been hit by three terrorist attacks in the last three years, was cancelled in November 2016.
There are now nine airlines operating in Thailand, according to data compiled by Thomson Reuters Travel.
But travel to the country can still be costly and not always free, with many airlines offering discounts for those who fly with a small budget.
Here are some tips to help make the best of your trip.
What are the differences between flights to Thailand?
There are seven major airlines operating to Thailand.
Each of the three major airlines in the country, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific and Thai Airways Thailand, operates flights to the island nation of 9 million people, according the airlines.
The United States, Australia and Canada also operate flights to that island nation.
The three airlines fly from their base in the capital Bangkok to various locations in the rest of the country.
There is also a second base in Mandalay and one in Chiang Mai.
Where do I get my flight?
Most domestic flights to Bangkok and Mandalay fly to the Thai-Malaysian border, where they pass through airports and are checked in by customs.
There may be additional check-in times for international flights.
The flight to Mandalays destination is usually at the airport, but not always.
For example, on September 6, 2016, a Thai Airways flight from Hong Kong to Mandalaya was cancelled at the border after an airline employee refused to let a passenger board.
CathayPacific Airlines also operates flights from Bangkok, but it does not take off from the main airport in the city.
The airline does take off at a new airport in Chulalongkorn, near the capital, Bangkok.
How long does the trip take?
Most of the flights in Thailand are scheduled for 30 to 60 minutes and take between four and six hours to complete.
For longer flights, there are extra security checks and sometimes additional baggage fees.
Where can I book a flight?
The most popular way to book a Thai flight to Thailand is by booking online.
Airlines often use online booking platforms to manage their flight routes and the cost of each seat.
